WCWC Webcomic Launch

Hey,

So for my facebook friends, twitter followers, and blog subscribers, I thought I would put in a tiny little note about a new webcomic created by Frank Darden and myself.

Well that's not exactly the truth.  It was Frank who created When Claws Were Cool.  It was Frank who created the super-flawed characters.  It was Frank who, through the years, developed this original type of humour that, in my opinion, hums around the edges of super-hero satire, parody, physical slapstick, sarcasm, and toilet-gags while circumventing quiet little moments of despair.

I was lucky enough to be invited onto the project by Frank.  And in the past six months I've taken his words and concepts and visualized this webcomic to the best of my ability.  It's crazy, because we are now just releasing the first pages that we created six months ago.  We have six months worth of content ready to upload, every thursday.  We also have a few years of written content.  So rest assured, WCWC will be around for awhile, evolving, developing, and escalating into the nether regions of ridiculousness.

Now I'm going to stop talking about the webcomic cause I know Frank will have some way better things to say.

I just wanted to thank some people. My Ma, Pop and annoying little sister, as well as my extended family.  Christine Daves, at the MCAD career center, for connecting me with Frank. Barb Schulz, Tom K, Zak Sally and Jim Keefe, my comic instructors at MCAD.  Erik Brandt and Kindra Murphy, for teaching me about typography and design. Hedwig, Bart, Caitlin, Amaya, Peter and Alex for being right there with me. John K Louis, for being the one random awesome dude to automatically start believing in me.  Andrew Herbst for many things, many future things, and for help inking the comic. Random web contributors who don't know I exist: Chris Coyier for the blank wordpress theme, Alex Moss for the facebook comment section, Ariel Flesler for inspiring some site elements. Top Shelf Attic for the web design inspiration.  Wizards who helped me directly: Phi Le, Jon Jensen and Bob Algeo(who also indirectly inspired the web design), for answering, illuminating and enduring all my emails about site debugging, javascript and php.

CarrieAnn. Ki Bae. Ryu.  Thank you all for the inspiration and your patience.

And Frank.

Oh yeah. Check out the webcomic here! Oh and tomorrow we start updating, and tweeting, and inviting.

best,

Hey internet,

So I will be at the Minnesota Comic Book Association Spring Con super comic event this weekend.  And I've been planning.

I will have Grotto Part One and Grotto Part Two, written by Andrew Herbst with covers by Hedwig Vinson for sale.

I will also have Raptors Print Edition 2, written by Jeremy M. Zoss, with cover by Caitlin Skalruud, including illustrations from Bart King and Amaya Goldsmith.  Raptors edition 2 is pretty similar to edition 1, except it's on better paper, printed on a better printer, and the lettering is improved.

Also, I will have a limited edition of screen prints available, the popular bison head (which you can view at the top of the website) will be for sale for $10.  Black ink on a thick card stock, 12x18 inches, printed by Twin Cities very own Anthem Heart.  I will only have 50 of these and once these sale I will have no second printing!  So if you miss out you miss out.

Fortunately, for the unsure, I will have eleven smaller comp cards in which, if you stop by my table, you can pick out one of your choosing that you can put on your fridge or fix that wobbly table with.  I will be basing the release of my next limited edition screen print on the popularity of these comp cards.  So please, stop by and say hi and take one with you!

Also, I'm unofficially launching a weekly webcomic tomorrow.  But you have to come to Springcon to get the flier and url to view this awesome full color webcomic before it's official launch on this following thursday!

Okay, I waited way to long to post this promotional blog update, but anyways, come by my table tomorrow and say hi!

2012

Hey everybody. It's been a really long time since I've had a blog post.  Probably two or three months or something.  I might as well start this post with some stand alone images I've created in the past couple of months.

See? It's been since like Christmas or something since I last posted...
The above image was a study for an upcoming comic I'm illustrating.
Good ole ten ton sketch challenge for Mars Attacks.

A piece of art I created to try to get a job at Fantasy Flight.

I haven't been updating the blog lately because I've been working, and the work is just about to get a little more intense. But talking about work is boring.  Here's some more exciting info:

I will be exhibiting at MCBA Springcon this year for the second time. I'm very excited!
After MCBA Springcon I will be at....

I am super excited for this as well! This will take place in the middle of June around the 15th or 16th or so.  And then the last show I will be going to this year will be-
I'm not positive that I have a table here yet but I will most surely attend as a guest if not an Artist Alley exhibiter.

At MCBA I should have a bunch of new stuff including a second print run of Raptors, as well as a collection of sketches I've completed over the past couple years called Rich Black. A new webcomic will most likely be launched by then as well. It is written by Frank Darden and involves some cartoony hilarity.  We've been working on an initial set of pages since december and let me tell you, it's been a pleasure to draw these pages.  Grotto Part 1 and 2 will also be for sell and I should have some new prints as well.

At CAKE I will most likely be delivering the same goods as above with a special sneak peak of a graphic novelette five years in the making.

At NYCC I will have the above Graphic Novelette in it's first print run.  It will be sixty pages of offset lithograph printed goodness, I can only hope.

Follow me on twitter @ashbyutting for more weekly updates. Peace out, folks.
